The weekend of 24-25th July saw ten qualifying 10 & 11 year olds from Halstead Swimming Club take part in the Swim England East Region - Future Champions event. This is the first meet for the club since lockdown, and extraordinarily the first ever meet for 2 of our swimmers; and what a meet!! The children: Charlie Nicolau, Emogene Kent-Jackson, Esme Osterritter, Imogen Cunliffe, Jasper Eaves, Jasper Kirkland, Joseph Bale, Layla Jennings, Maisie Draper and Monty Ames-Tull were amazing!!!!
Head Coach, John Lowe said, "We are a small club with a massive heart; each and every swimmer gave all they had, each and every one had massive PBs or very good, recorded times. I can’t describe the feeling when each and every swimmer surpasses your highest expectations!”
While all eyes are on the GB team in Tokyo to bring back the medals; Layla Jennings won Gold in 100m Backstroke with a massive 11.33 sec PB and Joseph Bale, age 10 won 3 Golds in the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke (making him the fastest in the country), and 50 Backstroke, and 2 Silvers in 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle.
A fantastic restart to competitive swimming from Halstead swimming club, with more to look forward to this weekend when qualifying members take part in the 12+ East Region Festive of swimming in Norwich and at the LAC the following week.
