- Halstead Swimmers Tackle the English Channel | Halstead SC
Back Halstead Swimmers Tackle the English Channel 22 May 2024 Halstead Swimming Club are incredibly proud of our Senior Captains Danni Rulton and Sam Johnson, coach Lewis Archer, Kai Adams and Ellie Johnson, who are bravely taking on one of the greatest swimming challenges, swimming the English Channel in August; 21 miles from Dover to Calais in one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, all in the aid of raising money and awareness of Child Bereavement UK. Our amazing young people, now in their 20s have trained alongside each other for over 15 years, competing with and against each other, both in the pool and open water events, including national championships. Swimming the Channel is totally different from anything that they have done before, requiring a new level of training and dedication from them all, supported and cheered on by our Head Coach John Lowe and Senior Coach Paddy Keeble, but also generously guided by the dedication and care of our ex-head coach Roger Wade, who has jumped into his kayak and put the team through their paces, both in the sea and at our favourite local open water venue Gosfield Lake. 46,000 children between 0-17 are bereaved of a parent each year, that’s 127 children a day experiencing an unimaginable loss! Child Bereavement UK provides essential support services to families at one of the most difficult moments of their lives, at one of the most formative and vulnerable times. They aim to help families rebuild their lives and people's generous donations allow their enormously important work to continue to happen. If you would like to donate and follow their journey to the sea, please go to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/halstead-channel-swim-2024 Previous Next

Halstead Swimming Club's History, Coaches, Committee Members, Welfare Officers, Club records and Squad breakdown and details. Halstead Swimming Club Halstead Swimming Club was started early in 1965 at the old swimming pool in Parsonage Street. The founder members were Maisie Randall and Johnny Newport. Our President, Gordon Finch, became involved in 1973 and has been with the club ever since. The swimming pool was built as a dye tank for the Courtaulds factory in 1914 and later given to the people of Halstead as a Public Bath. We fought for many years to get a new pool and finally moved to our present home in the Halstead Leisure Centre in 2004. Many of our swimmers, after progressing through the various squads continue to support the club by becoming coaches and officials. HSC is affiliated to Swim England Essex and Swim England East Region. The club holds a constitution; this is a set of rules based on a model constitution from Swim England. The HSC Constitution was updated at the AGM, held on 26 June 2020. A copy of which is available for members to view under documents on Club Organiser. Experienced Coaches will teach you drills and sets to perfect your strokes, build your stamina and get you diving off the blocks. Swimmers usually start to compete at 9yrs old (as specified by Swim England Level 3 License conditions), but younger swimmers will gain valuable experience during training with their squad friends, challenging themselves with targets set by their coaches and blasting off at Club Champs on the run up to their debut. Back Junior League Success! 25 Jun 2023 2023-06-25 National Junior League - Div1 - Rnd3- Gala2 - Southbury LC host Chelsea - Prov .pdf Download PDF • 218KB Report by John Lowe Apologies for the lateness in writing this report but i have to admit to having a little private celebration first. To say I am overwhelmed by the team's efforts today is an understatement. Halstead were already on to a winner simply because wherever we finished it would have been our greatest achievement in the Junior League by some margin. To finish 3rd overall is an incredible result. I will go over individual efforts another time but tonight belongs to the team. As a team we were fabulous whether we won an event or came last; each swim gave us valuable points; and when you consider how close the placings were from 3rd to 5th our achievement was immense. I, along with all of the other Coaches, have a sense of pride regarding the swimming tonight. Although Paddy and Gary and all of the helpers were not there today they have more than helped make this Halstead team something to be reckoned with. I don't know if you can get more pleasure than watching your siblings perform to their utmost and produce a result such as this. We have never been in an "A" final before and yes some teams have dropped out because of covid; but we didn't. Lets put things into perspective - we sometimes (me included) take performances for granted because that's what we expect. Look at the teams we were up against. Winners Chelsea and Westminster - not only London's finest team but a top 10 in the country, Royal Tunbridge Wells - the outstanding team in Kent. You then have Enfield Swim Squad made up from 7 teams that existed in the borough of Enfield. Greenwich Royals another massive club, then "Little ol Alstead". I am not belittling Halstead but it is funny when you hear opposing teams ask where Halstead is. It is also nice to hear the referee Jonathon from Harlow say thet since taking the League Organiser role he has followed our progress for the last 5 years and mightily impressed he is. So should all of the parents be. Whether you competed in 1, 2 or 3 rounds you have all helped with this result. Whether you came first or last they have all been points toward our success. As a small club we obviously rely on your committment and by and large we have had that. Many thanks and very well done to each and every swimmer. Previous Next

Licensed Events When you join any competitive swimming club you are allocated a Swim England membership number, this will enable you to join the centralised database where all your licensed events will be recorded: What you swam, where you swam, the time, etc... There are even graphs of your progress! Link: Swimming Results Website Swim England ensures that the standards of the sport are upheld; a ny organisation wishing to offer a licensed event must provide Swim England with the details of each programme and they must meet the criteria for whichever license they are applying for - All stipulated in the terms and conditions of each event. License Levels (simplified.........kind of) Level 4 Licensed Meets - These are considered entry level meets, perfect for inexperienced swimmers to gain experience, before progressing to Level 3 meets. It is usually the license that our Club Champs is held under. While they are held within the club, they still require officials who have met the required standards. It is rare, but sometimes clubs might host a development meet, where 8 year olds can compete under license, these are invitational only meets (where the host invites a limited number of other clubs to attend) ! Widget Didn’t Load Check your internet and refresh this page. If that doesn’t work, contact us. Level 3 Licensed Meets - These are the most common meet license that the majority of swimmers attend. Once a swimmer has achieved their Competitive Start certificate (Coach confirms that they can safely dive from the blocks) AND the swimmer is 9 years old or over, they can enter any open meets the swimming club has stated that they will support. There is a publicly available Meet Calendar on the Swimmingresults.org website, which amalgamates British Swimming, Swim England, Swim Wales and Scottish Swimming. Link: Meet Calendar The Coaches and Halstead Committee pulls together a selection of meets that our club are able to support (Coaches/Team Leaders available on the day, for safeguarding, guidance and support, plus we have to offer host clubs Officials to help run the event) Members can choose when and how often they would like to attend Open Meets. It is a personal choice. Level 3 meets are used to qualify for County and Regional championships. There is one League that Halstead takes part, whose events are Licenced - The National Arena League. This is a Halstead Swimming Club Team event. The coaches will make a team selection based on swimmers performances at Open Meets, Club Champs and Training commitment. Link: National Arena League ! Widget Didn’t Load Check your internet and refresh this page. If that doesn’t work, contact us. Level 2 (Short course/25m pool) and Level 1 (Long Course/50m pool) Licensed Meets - These are the Championships and Open Meets where swimmers have to have reached minimum times. The standards of entry vary depending on the level of the Championship, either being entered, or the qualification being attempted: Essex County Championships - Essex holds 2 championships a year; usually held between the London Aquatics Centre and Basildon venues. Winter Championships (Level 2, short course) in October. Qualifying times for the female and Open categories are released in June (one time per event, competing age is not separated out). Qualification is from Level 3, 2 & 1 licenses. The Age Group Championships (should be Level 1, long course, but in recent years has been reduced to Level 2 short course, due to problems with the Basildon venue) held in Jan/Feb. Qualifying times are released in September. Qualification for this event is accepted from Level 4 licensed events and higher. The QTs are broken down by age and classification Female/Open East Region Championships - 2 Championships a year. Usually Held across EAU Norwich and Inspire Luton venues. Qualification for these events is accepted from Level 3, 2 & 1 licensed swims. Winter Championships (Level 2, short course) in November. Qualifying times for the female and Open categories are released in August (one time per event, competing age is not separated out). Long Course Championships (Level 1, long course), held in May. Qualifying times are released in January. The QTs are broken down by age and classification Female/Open British and National Championships - Swim against Britain and your Nations best, there are 2 championships a year. Summer Championships (Level 1 Long Course). Summer Championships, both British and National (England, Welsh, Scottish) have a strict qualifying season. The qualifying open meets are held between March and May. These are invitation only, age group events and the qualification window is very small. When the season opens, there will be a number of Level 1 open meets on offer for swimmers striving for times. A spreadsheet of shortlisted swimmers is launched on swimmingresults.org's home page , it is updated twice a week until the closing date in May (usually after all the Regions have completed their Long Course Champs). British Summer Championships is held in July and Nationals is at the beginning of August. Winter British and National Short Course Championships - Qualification times are issued in the Autumn. The event is held mid December. ! Widget Didn’t Load Check your internet and refresh this page. If that doesn’t work, contact us. Unlicensed Events Some events are unlicensed, which allows for voluntary run opportunities to compete. The fundamental rules of competing are maintained, but there is a flexibility in the levels of qualification that the officials need to have in terms of referee, time keeping, judging etc.. Halstead swimmers routinely take part in two unlicensed team events: The M11 Junior league and the Essex Mini League The coaches select swimmers to represent Halstead and send out invitations. The Essex Masters event is one of the most enjoyable events to take part in for the +18 years swimmers, but it is unlicensed. ! Widget Didn’t Load Check your internet and refresh this page. - Jack Petchey | Halstead SC
Information on how the Jack Petchey organisation is supporting Halstead Swimming Club At Halstead Swimming Club we want our swimmers to strive to achieve their personal best. We are therefore delighted to advise that we are now a recognised Jack Petchey Foundation youth organisation. Jack Petchey Foundation was set up to inspire, motivate and recognise young people across London and Essex for their outstanding achievements. Awards and Nominations Our club will put forward nominations (for members 11-25 years old) for 5 annual awards to recognise the achievements both in and out of the pool. The nominations will be taken from names put forward by any/all members and then reviewed by our Jack Petchey Achievers Panel. The Panel consists of 2 Development, 3 Junior and 3 Senior swimmers and will be assisted by two parents. We have had such a fantastic response from members wanting to take part, that the HSC panel will rotate every 6 months, to allow as many members to take part and benefit from the experience. Our nomination period is now open, closing on 1st April 2025 We want to hear from all of you with your nominations to recognise someone in the Club which calls out their achievements. The Club has two awards to make in this round. Our Jack Petchey Achievers Panel will select two winners who will be announced poolside, by panel members in February. To make your nominations (as many as you like!), please use our form attached below (it has also been emailed out to all members). Send them into Info@HalsteadSC.co.uk by no later than 1st April 2025. Thank you! Find out more about the Jack Petchey Foundation - Web Link Normination Form Jack Petchey Nomination-form.pdf Winners Congratulations to Ethan, Jacob, Sophie, Matthew, Gini and Chloe for being awarded the Jack Petchey Achievement Award, as nominated and voted for by his peers at Halstead Swimming Club! Ethan Ethan has given up personal time to support the coaching team in progressing the Development Squad. He has shown initiative and tenacity in delivering coaching programmes to the younger members of the Club. He has been exemplar in his role modelling poolside, inspiring others to develop further. Jacob Jacob is always improving his swimming, he is truly dedicated to his sport. His commitment to improve shines through and his hard work recently contributed to his three personal bests achieved at the Essex Age Group Championships 2025. His presence at training sessions is unwavering and his smile reflects his passion. Jacob isn't just a swimmer; he is an inspiring role model. His dedication and enthusiasm pushes others to strive for their personal best, creating a positive ripple effect within the Junior squad. Jacob's commitment, positivity and outstanding performance makes him a deserving candidate for recognition. Ginni Progressing from junior to senior squad has been a real challenge for Ginni. She has had to step up both physically and mentally to achieve longer and harder sessions. Progressing into the squad, whilst friends remained behind, has been part of the challenge. She was quite concerned about her first session, however becoming resilient to the environment and training, building new friendships and having a real can-do attitude have been real qualities that she has demonstrated to prove to herself that she can do this! Sophie Every single time Sophie swims she puts in 100% effort into her stroke. She tries incredibly hard to do her best and to improve. Sophie has overcome her personal challenges, seeking to develop her tumble turns and increase her swimming times. She has listened to mentors and coaches poolside, and has really taken onboard the changes that she needs to implement to enhance her performance. Matthew He is extremely hard working and always on time and very determined to train. He has taken himself to galas on his own to push his personal best times. This is a big challenge to be at an open meet without the support of the club, but Matthew is determined to take his swimming to the next level Chloe Chloe has been an inspirational team player within the Club. A role model both at competitions and during training. Firstly Chloe has relentlessly trained to achieve national swimming times and her personal bests have continued to be broken. Beyond this she has taken personal time out to come and support some of the more junior swimmers. On Sunday afternoons she is seen giving up valuable study time to impart her experience with others. She has helped the coaches when they have been stretched and has taken this responsibility seriously.
