- Essex Masters 2023 | Halstead SC
Back Essex Masters 2023 25 Mar 2023 A successful day for Halstead’s more mature swimmers yesterday at Essex Masters. Some great swims and we finished overall in 5th position. Some highlights included- Neil nailing his back to breast turn - Chris wearing a tech suit inside out (to be fair I suspect no one has tried that before and maybe it’s quicker….) Most of us followed a Lewis-esque schedule (for those that don’t know, that means swimming far too many events) and are still in recovery. Great day. Great team. - Jack Petchey | Halstead SC
Information on how the Jack Petchey organisation is supporting Halstead Swimming Club At Halstead Swimming Club we want our swimmers to strive to achieve their personal best. We are therefore delighted to advise that we are now a recognised Jack Petchey Foundation youth organisation. Jack Petchey Foundation was set up to inspire, motivate and recognise young people across London and Essex for their outstanding achievements. Awards and Nominations Our club will put forward nominations (for members 11-25 years old) for 5 annual awards to recognise the achievements both in and out of the pool. The nominations will be taken from names put forward by any/all members and then reviewed by our Jack Petchey Achievers Panel. The Panel consists of 2 Development, 3 Junior and 3 Senior swimmers and will be assisted by two parents. We have had such a fantastic response from members wanting to take part, that the HSC panel will rotate every 6 months, to allow as many members to take part and benefit from the experience. Our nomination period is now open, closing on 1st April 2025 We want to hear from all of you with your nominations to recognise someone in the Club which calls out their achievements. The Club has two awards to make in this round. Our Jack Petchey Achievers Panel will select two winners who will be announced poolside, by panel members in February. To make your nominations (as many as you like!), please use our form attached below (it has also been emailed out to all members). Send them into Info@HalsteadSC.co.uk by no later than 1st April 2025. Thank you! Find out more about the Jack Petchey Foundation - Web Link Normination Form Jack Petchey Nomination-form.pdf Winners Congratulations to Ethan, Jacob, Sophie, Matthew, Gini and Chloe for being awarded the Jack Petchey Achievement Award, as nominated and voted for by his peers at Halstead Swimming Club! Ethan Ethan has given up personal time to support the coaching team in progressing the Development Squad. He has shown initiative and tenacity in delivering coaching programmes to the younger members of the Club. He has been exemplar in his role modelling poolside, inspiring others to develop further. Jacob Jacob is always improving his swimming, he is truly dedicated to his sport. His commitment to improve shines through and his hard work recently contributed to his three personal bests achieved at the Essex Age Group Championships 2025. His presence at training sessions is unwavering and his smile reflects his passion. Jacob isn't just a swimmer; he is an inspiring role model. His dedication and enthusiasm pushes others to strive for their personal best, creating a positive ripple effect within the Junior squad. Jacob's commitment, positivity and outstanding performance makes him a deserving candidate for recognition. Ginni Progressing from junior to senior squad has been a real challenge for Ginni. She has had to step up both physically and mentally to achieve longer and harder sessions. Progressing into the squad, whilst friends remained behind, has been part of the challenge. She was quite concerned about her first session, however becoming resilient to the environment and training, building new friendships and having a real can-do attitude have been real qualities that she has demonstrated to prove to herself that she can do this! Sophie Every single time Sophie swims she puts in 100% effort into her stroke. She tries incredibly hard to do her best and to improve. Sophie has overcome her personal challenges, seeking to develop her tumble turns and increase her swimming times. She has listened to mentors and coaches poolside, and has really taken onboard the changes that she needs to implement to enhance her performance. Matthew He is extremely hard working and always on time and very determined to train. He has taken himself to galas on his own to push his personal best times. This is a big challenge to be at an open meet without the support of the club, but Matthew is determined to take his swimming to the next level Chloe Chloe has been an inspirational team player within the Club. A role model both at competitions and during training. Firstly Chloe has relentlessly trained to achieve national swimming times and her personal bests have continued to be broken. Beyond this she has taken personal time out to come and support some of the more junior swimmers. On Sunday afternoons she is seen giving up valuable study time to impart her experience with others. She has helped the coaches when they have been stretched and has taken this responsibility seriously.
- Halstead Swimmers Tackle the English Channel | Halstead SC
Back Halstead Swimmers Tackle the English Channel 22 May 2024 Halstead Swimming Club are incredibly proud of our Senior Captains Danni Rulton and Sam Johnson, coach Lewis Archer, Kai Adams and Ellie Johnson, who are bravely taking on one of the greatest swimming challenges, swimming the English Channel in August; 21 miles from Dover to Calais in one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, all in the aid of raising money and awareness of Child Bereavement UK. Our amazing young people, now in their 20s have trained alongside each other for over 15 years, competing with and against each other, both in the pool and open water events, including national championships. Swimming the Channel is totally different from anything that they have done before, requiring a new level of training and dedication from them all, supported and cheered on by our Head Coach John Lowe and Senior Coach Paddy Keeble, but also generously guided by the dedication and care of our ex-head coach Roger Wade, who has jumped into his kayak and put the team through their paces, both in the sea and at our favourite local open water venue Gosfield Lake. 46,000 children between 0-17 are bereaved of a parent each year, that’s 127 children a day experiencing an unimaginable loss! Child Bereavement UK provides essential support services to families at one of the most difficult moments of their lives, at one of the most formative and vulnerable times. They aim to help families rebuild their lives and people's generous donations allow their enormously important work to continue to happen. If you would like to donate and follow their journey to the sea, please go to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/halstead-channel-swim-2024 Previous Next
- Junior League Success! | Halstead SC
Back Junior League Success! 25 Jun 2023 2023-06-25 National Junior League - Div1 - Rnd3- Gala2 - Southbury LC host Chelsea - Prov .pdf Download PDF • 218KB Report by John Lowe Apologies for the lateness in writing this report but i have to admit to having a little private celebration first. To say I am overwhelmed by the team's efforts today is an understatement. Halstead were already on to a winner simply because wherever we finished it would have been our greatest achievement in the Junior League by some margin. To finish 3rd overall is an incredible result. I will go over individual efforts another time but tonight belongs to the team. As a team we were fabulous whether we won an event or came last; each swim gave us valuable points; and when you consider how close the placings were from 3rd to 5th our achievement was immense. I, along with all of the other Coaches, have a sense of pride regarding the swimming tonight. Although Paddy and Gary and all of the helpers were not there today they have more than helped make this Halstead team something to be reckoned with. I don't know if you can get more pleasure than watching your siblings perform to their utmost and produce a result such as this. We have never been in an "A" final before and yes some teams have dropped out because of covid; but we didn't. Lets put things into perspective - we sometimes (me included) take performances for granted because that's what we expect. Look at the teams we were up against. Winners Chelsea and Westminster - not only London's finest team but a top 10 in the country, Royal Tunbridge Wells - the outstanding team in Kent. You then have Enfield Swim Squad made up from 7 teams that existed in the borough of Enfield. Greenwich Royals another massive club, then "Little ol Alstead". I am not belittling Halstead but it is funny when you hear opposing teams ask where Halstead is. It is also nice to hear the referee Jonathon from Harlow say thet since taking the League Organiser role he has followed our progress for the last 5 years and mightily impressed he is. So should all of the parents be. Whether you competed in 1, 2 or 3 rounds you have all helped with this result. Whether you came first or last they have all been points toward our success. As a small club we obviously rely on your committment and by and large we have had that. Many thanks and very well done to each and every swimmer. Previous Next

- HSC Success at the Born2Tri Gosfield Lake Triathlon & Multisports Event | Halstead SC
Back HSC Success at the Born2Tri Gosfield Lake Triathlon & Multisports Event 2 Jul 2023 Not a HSC event, but a ‘HSC family’ gathering of athleticism, friendships and camaraderie; the Born2Tri Gosfield Lake Triathlon and Multisports Event 2023. Genuinely one of the best, and brightest events: the weather was perfect, the venue was spectacular and the people cheerful, inspiring and supportive. An 18+ years event that saw: Charlie (with a spectacular transition!), Marcel and Kai take 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 20km bike ride, 5km run) an incredible feat!! Reaffirmed by seasoned tri spectator, Shaun Boldock’s sheer excitement and pride in them all and their achievements! Thomas came in a brilliant 18th overall and 8th in the Open category on his first triathlon, followed closely by Lewis in 14th and Sam in 16th. HSC alumni Becki came in at 9th in the Open female cat (1st most cheerful, according to the photos!), closely followed by Robyn in 10th - with a triumphant 4 minute PB and ‘less of the old HSC’ timer mum Katie came in 20th as a veteran cat on her first triathlon, go Katie! . Holly Freegard came in a MAGNIFICENT 1st in the Aquathlon (1500m swim, 10km run) Neil came in 16th on his first ever tri, as a veteran, in the Standard Tri (1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run). I think that there were other HSC alumni and family there, but I don’t know everyone’s names, if someone points me in their direction I’ll add them to the report with glee and pride It was just the loveliest of events to watch, the HSC members past, present and parental were just wonderful! An amazing number of the HSC community turned out to support them all; Special mention to Dave, who might be an amazing competitive swimming coach, but is also experienced at officiating these events, and was just as emotional watching our gang come through the final stages. Thanks for being just as excited with the whole thing! I personally had Linneys #1 & #2 wanting to have a go, with #3 thinking maybe……when I’m older…..but I’ll watch with a bacon sandwich in the meantime . Bale #2 was overheard saying that she would overcome her fear of open water swimming to give it a go in the future…..if the others join her . Meanwhile, Daisy looked on glad she ‘only’ has to worry about the swimming part in this weekend’s Regional Open Water Champs in Norwich, with Lewis. Shout out to the incredible job done by the Born2Tri organisers and to Gosfield Lake (one of HSC's very own). Spectacular job!! Thank you!! Well done everyone. Truly, truly fabulous!
